Who is this qualification for?

The VTCT (ITEC) Level 4 Certificate in Skin Needling is an advanced therapy qualification aimed at level 3 qualified practitioners aged 18 and over, who wish to add this therapy to their repertoire of treatment offerings.

Pre-Requisite:

Learners are required to hold a level 3 beauty therapy qualification or equivalent.


What does this qualification cover?

This qualification is informed by employers and national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a fully commercial skin needling practitioner. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:

  • Principles and practice of non-medical aesthetic therapies

  • Advanced consultation for non-medical aesthetic therapies

  • Advanced skin care for non-medical aesthetic therapies

  • Provide cosmetic skin needling treatments

  • Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety pertaining to level 4 aesthetic therapies.

  • They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with and analyse clients whilst providing skin needling treatments.

  • In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills and widen their knowledge of the principles and practices of level 4 aesthetic therapies, all of which are valued highly by employers.


Why is this qualification the most suitable?

This qualification is one of a new suite of level 4 advanced aesthetic therapies developed as a progression route for level 3 practitioners wishing to add to their repertoire in specific treatment modalities. 

What could this qualification lead to?

The primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment in the advanced aesthetic industry providing skin needling techniques. Additionally, learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills by completing supplementary specialist qualifications at level 4 in one or more of the following areas:

  • Skin peeling  

  • Radio frequency 

  • Ultrasound

The Level 4 Certificate in Chemical Skin Peeling provides learners with the knowledge and skills to carry out professional, safe and effective skin peeling treatments in line with regulatory recommendations. 

It is a practical and knowledge based qualification aimed at therapists who wish to offer skin peeling treatments or existing aesthetic therapists who wish to advanced their knowledge and skills.

Specification

The main aim of the ITEC Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Skincare is to enable Learners to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide Advanced Skincare treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the Beauty Therapy Industry. This qualification is suitable for Learners aged 16 and over and is designed to provide occupational competence at Level 4. 

It also provides a sound platform into further training at Level 4.


Content

This qualification is for Learners who want to work within the Beauty Therapy Industry. The qualification consists of 6 mandatory units with a total of 338 hours of Guided Learning (GL) to achieve the full qualification

This qualification is for Learners who want to work in an Advanced Skincare Clinic, Beauty Salon or Spa and is comprised of 4 core units which are mandatory


The main skills the Learner will perform are:

  • Laser and Light Treatments for skin rejuvenation – to include consultation, skin analysis (Fitzpatrick scale), recognising contraindications and contra-actions, carrying out relevant tests prior to treatment and adapting the treatment to the client’s needs

  • Microdermabrasion treatments – to include consultation, skin analysis, recognising contraindications and contra-actions, carrying out relevant tests prior to treatment and adapting the treatment to the client’s needs

  • Managing health, safety and security in the salon

  • The chemistry of hair and beauty products – to include ingredients, effects and safe use, packaging materials and the properties and effects of ultra violet radiation on hair and beauty products

  • The Learner will also learn about client care and communication and the physiology of ageing which is essential in order to work and be successful in the industry

The related knowledge and understanding required to perform the Laser and Light Treatments for skin rejuvenation listed above effectively, in particular dermatology and microbiology and common diseases and disorders that may affect when a client should or should not receive treatment

Guided Learning (GL)

Guided Learning is ‘the activity of a


Learner in being taught or instructed by – or otherwise participating in education or training under the immediate guidance or supervision of – a Lecturer, Supervisor, Tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training.’ This includes ‘the activity of being assessed if the assessment takes place under the immediate guidance or supervision of a Lecturer, Supervisor, Tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training’

Total Qualification Time (TQT)

Total Qualification Time is the number of notional hours which represents an estimate of the total amount of time that could reasonably be expected to be required, in order for a Learner to achieve and demonstrate the achievement of the level of attainment necessary for the award of the qualification

Total Credit Value

The total Credit Value for the qualification is equal to one tenth of the Total Qualification Time rounded to the nearest whole number.

  1. Registration application will be reviewed and verified.

  2. Learner will be notified and registered once the deposit amount has been received.

  3. Learner will be loaded on to the system and a student number will be generated.

  4. Contact will be made to ensure that the learner knows the scheduled times and class time tables.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Open Learning

The entry criterion for the Short courses an International 

trainings are :

  • Minimum age 16 and older

  • NQF level 3

  • Communication and literacy

  • Numeracy and mathematical skills at Level 3

This means that the learner are at least 16 years of age or older and with specialised programmes 18 years depending on the Approved Accrediting Body.

The entry for certain units or short learning programmes might be subject to pre requisites and prior learning. 

For example : anatomy and physiology and professional conduct units must be in place or prior learning required before entering into the Diploma in Holistic massage.

Manicures and pedicures must be in place prior to entering into the Diploma in Nail technology.

Rpl [Recognition of prior learning] is also provided for learners with past experience or alternatively learners with other qualifications applicable, will also be considered.
