This Further Education and Training Certificate: Beauty and Nail Technology will assist in job creation within the Beauty and Cosmetology Industry as a whole and can lead to entrepreneurial opportunities for learners. It will also assist in enhancing of the self-image of each individual learner. An improved self-image leads to a more positive outlook and performance within the job market and society.

About the qualification

This Qualification provides a framework for learners to develop competencies that will enable them to become competent in the Beauty and Nail Technology industry.

It introduces some theoretical concepts, requires the application of a base of knowledge and requires a well-developed range of skills that will enable learners to be informed workers in the beauty industry. 

 

The primary purpose of the qualification is to develop the foundational, practical and reflexive competencies required for a career in the beauty profession. 

 

Central to the Qualification is the development of a culture of professionalism and service excellence in the Beauty and Cosmetology industry. 

 

Learners working towards this Further Education and Training Certificate: Beauty and Nail Technology will find that the acquisition of competence in the unit standards, which make up the Qualification, will add value to their job performance. 

 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 

The following is the learning assumed to be in place: 

Communication Skills at NQF Level 3.

Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3. 

 

Recognition of Prior Learning: 

The structure of this Unit Standard based Qualification makes provision for the Recognition of Prior Learning possible in that it can be achieve in whole or in part, if the learner is able to demonstrate competence in the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes implicit in the Beauty and Nail Technology qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning will be done by means of Integrated Assessment of the specific outcomes of the associated unit standards and of the Exit Level Outcomes of the qualification.

QUALIFICATION RULES 

The qualification is made up of a combination of learning outcomes from Fundamental, Core and Elective components.

To achieve the Certificate, the learner is expected to achieve a minimum of 156 credits made up as follows. 

 

Fundamental: 

The Fundamental Component consists of Unit Standards in: 

Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 to the value of 16 credits.

Communication at NQF Level 4 in a First South African Language to the value of 20 credits.

Communication in a Second South African Language at NQF Level 3 to the value of 20 credits. 

It is compulsory therefore for learners to do Communication in two different South African languages, one at NQF Level 4 and the other at NQF Level 3. 

All Unit Standards in the Fundamental Component totalling 56 credits are compulsory. 

Core: 

All the unit standards in the Core Component to the value of 50 credits are compulsory. 

Elective: 

Learners are to choose a specialisation and complete all the unit standards listed for the specialisation and then complete additional unit standards from the generic elective cluster to obtain a minimum of 50 credits for the Elective Component.

ID 377487: Perform a relaxing back and neck massage, NQF Level 4, 6 Credits. 

ID 377488: Perform a facial and back cleanse service, NQF Level 4, 8 Credits. 

ID 377486: Perform make-up services for all occasions, NQF Level 4, 6 Credits. 

ID 377482: Perform eye lash tint and eyebrow tinting and shaping, NQF Level 3, 2 Credits. 

ID 377480: Perform a specialised manicure and pedicure using various techniques, NQF Level 4, 2 Credits. 

ID 377505: Perform manicure and pedicure services, NQF Level 3, 8 Credits. 

ID 377483: Identify disorders of the skin and hair, NQF Level 3, 8 Credits.
